Speaking of Stories – Episode 44 – Ray Zdonek

Episode 44 of SoS is an excerpt from The Last Round Up, book four in The Lee Kosak Mystery Series, by Ray Zdonek.

Lee Kosak saved the homeless man’s life once, but now his body has been found in the Beachcomber’s parking lot, the victim of an apparent drug overdose. But Lee doesn’t believe it for a minute. When a missed voicemail message brings back a voice from the dead, his worst suspicions are confirmed. But what was the conspiracy exploiting the deaths of the homeless as well as the victims of street crime? And how would he and Terry Jamison stop the supreme rip-off?

A long time Bloomington resident, Zdonek grew up in Gary and spent a lot of time in the Dunes. In a recent conversation with SoS, Zdonek noted that the protagonists of his work are not based on real people, but part of the fun of writing these mysteries is being able to insert real pieces of his life into the plot. One of his goals with the Lee Kosak series is for each book to address a progressive issue.
