Originally from Indianapolis, Ian Woollen has lived in Bloomington for nearly 40 years. He, and his wife Sue Sweeny, are the proverbial graduate students who never left town. Ian is also a psychotherapist. In both his writing and therapy practice Ian says he is looking for the narrative, the story line. Ian carries a small notebook to jot ideas and then goes back over his notes, using that as a starting point for his writing. He writes, rewrites, rewrites again and revises. He loves writing dialogue, and says a novel is a big story moving from exposition to dialogue, a short story does the same but in less space. “Emergency Alert” employs that technique, just enough explanation with the dialogue widening our view of the characters and situation.
