Welcome to Prescription for Healthcare, a podcast collaboration between the WFHB Local News and Medicare for All Indiana, broadcasting the second Thursday of every month as part of the Local News at 5:15 PM.
This month we interview Dr. Ed Weisbart, a physician in St Louis who is the board Secretary of Physicians for a National Health Program, PNHP, and Chair of the Missouri Chapter of PNHP. He has been our guest several times before.
”When you ask me what we can do, we need to become aware of these attacks to Medicare, we need to fight them, we need to speak out, we need to organize around that. We need to be right there shoulder to shoulder with the people who are focused on the climate or focused on social security or focused on any of these other horrible crises. They’re all the same. They all have the root cause of democracy collapsing before us. If you wanted to pick one Uber issue, that’s not a heavy lift (Don’t mind my puns). If you wanted to pick something like that, it’s rescue democracy. Fight to save democracy.”
The article cited early in the podcast: Dr. Oz and the Plot Against Medicare: Medicare Advantage plans are killing seniors and bankrupting hospitals. Now the Trump administration is preparing to make them mandatory, ending Medicare as we know it.
