In today’s feature report, Dave Askins of the B-Square Bulletin provides updates on the city’s plans to relocate Bloomington police headquarters to the Showers building and the redevelopment of the Hopewell neighborhood. More in today’s feature report.

But first, your daily headlines:

Bloomington City Council

At the Bloomington City Council meeting on June 7th, Director of Public Works Adam Wason gave a report on the city’s pavement and sidewalk conditions.

Wason presented on the state of the road surfaces in Bloomington, the condition of the pavement was delineated by Pavement Condition Index or P-C-I .

Next, the council discussed Resolution 23-09, a resolution endorsing Indiana to pass Legislation to establish a driver card for undocumented Indiana residents.

Office of the Mayor Chief of Staff Josefa Madgridal (Mad-ri-gal), presented the resolution to the council. She explained that the Office of the Mayor received information from a non-profit, La Voz Unida, which asked the city to pass the resolution to support state legislation to allow undocumented immigrants to get a driver’s license.

Madgridal outlined the benefits of passing the resolution, explained what the drivers card will not do, and shared that 13 other municipalities in Indiana have passed similar legislation.

During public comment Indiana Senator Shelli Yoder asked the council to approve the resolution to pledge support to the legislation.

The council passed the resolution unanimously.

The next Bloomington City Council meeting will be held on June 14th.

Bloomington Utilities Service Board

At the Bloomington Utilities Service Board meeting on June 5th, before approving the standard invoices,

Board Member Jeff Ehman asked about Davey Resource Group Miller-Showers dredging permits. Assistant Director of Environmental Programs Katherine Zaiger responded.

Ehman followed up by asking why they need permits in the first place. Zaiger explained what the permit is for.

Next, Assistant Director of Finance Matt Havey discussed a customer refund.

A board member asked what caused the inquiry. Havey responded.

The board approved the refund unanimously. Next, Director of Utilities Vic Kelson gave an update on the budget.

The board agreed to discuss more at a future finance subcommittee meeting. Kelson said the budget should be finalized around the end of July. The next Bloomington Utilities Service Board meeting will be held on June 20th.
