Zaineb Istrabadi

Play

She comes from a storied Bloomington family that’s produced a Shakespearean scholar, the city’s first civil engineer, and Iraq’s former ambassador to the United Nations. Teacher of the Arabic language and a long-time community activist, Zaineb Istrabadi calls herself a “midwestern gal” despite being born in England, raised in Baghdad, and having lived a large part of her adult life in New York City. She’s weathered many storms in her time, including the recurring prejudice many Americans have for people from Arab countries.

Host Michael Glab goes one-on-one with Bloomington’s most fascinating people every Thursday at 5:30pm. Tune in for a bonus feature, Big Talk Extra, every Monday on the Daily Local News at 5:00pm for added chat from the previous week’s show.
