Ximena Martinez: The New Producer Behind Hola Bloomington, Blending Public Affairs and Latino Outreach with WFHB

Meet Ximena Martinez, the new producer for WFHB’s Spanish speaking program, Hola Bloomington. This exceptional public affairs program will return with Ximena at the helm starting on Friday, July 7th from 6-7 p.m.

She was born and raised in Mexico City and had lived there her entire life until 2020 when  she and her husband moved to the US to pursue graduate studies at Indiana University. 

Ximena has a Master of International Affairs with a concentration in Security, Diplomacy, and  Global Governance, which she earned through a joint degree program offered by the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs and the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and  International Studies at IU. 

Ximena has been serving as the Latino Outreach Coordinator for the Community and Family Resources Department at the City of Bloomington since May 2023, and her commitment to fulfilling her responsibilities with great care is truly impressive. 

Having previously worked within the City of Bloomington at the Utilities Department as part of the Communications team, her experience there allowed her to maintain frequent contact with  associates, other government agencies, and members of the general public to communicate factual-work related information. 

Her prior professional experience includes working as: 

International Student Services Coordinator with the IU O’Neill School in Bloomington,  Indiana. (January 2022 – December 2022) 

Government Relations Intern with the Ministry of Economy and Maritime Affairs in  Lisbon, Portugal. (Summer 2022) 

Additionally, Ximena served the Federal Government of Mexico for more than 10  years. Her last role at the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in  Mexico City, Mexico, was as Senior Advisor at the Directorate for Strategic Planning. 

Her academic background includes: 

Undergraduate degree with honors from Tecnologico de Monterrey (ITESM) in  International Relations, Mexico City, Mexico.  

Exchange programs in Melbourne, Australia; Madrid, Spain; Quebec, Canada; and  San José, Costa Rica. 

Besides being bilingual in English and Spanish, she knows other languages such as French and Portuguese. 

Fun facts:  

She loves working out and has run marathons both in the US and Mexico.  

Her passion is to travel around the world and learn from different cultures.

Her favorite spot for vacation is any destination with a beach. 

Ximena’s remarkable set of skills and experience has been recognized by the Community  and Family Resources Department, making her an excellent addition to the team. From the  moment she assumed the Latino Outreach Coordinator position, she immediately began  establishing connections with key partners and community leaders who have played a vital  role in developing and strengthening the Latino network in Bloomington.
