At the Ellettsville Plan Commission meeting on September 9th, the Commission heard two requests.

Planning Director Denise Line, introduced the first item, a preliminary plat approval for forty-five single family lots in Prominence Fields, located at North Louden Road and West Upland Drive. Line said that staff recommends its conditional approval.

Commissioner Sandra Hash asked where the sinkhole had been found.

The petitioner’s Engineer from Bynum Fanyo & Associates, AJ Willis spoke on behalf of the petitioner

Hash followed up, asking if the Department of Natural Resources would look at the sinkhole. Willis responded.

Next the Petitioner Valu-built Construction Co-Owner, Ernest Xi explained their plans for the plats.

Commission President David Drake spoke in favor of the request.

The commission unanimously voted to approve the plat request.

Next the commission heard a request for a zoning map amendment. The petitioner, Chris Smith, asked the commission to change 115 acres located at 7633 West State Road 46, from Agricultural – 2, Suburban Agricultural, to Commercial-3, General Business. Line outlined the request.

Line shared the staff’s recommendation on the rezone request.

The petitioner Chris Smith spoke to the commission.

During public comment on the proposal, Envision Ellettsville Project Manager Kyle Hannon spoke in support of the zoning amendment.

Next, an Ellettsville resident voiced his concern about increasing development, and not having the capacity to handle the influx of more residents.

The commission voted unanimously to pass on a positive recommendation to the town council for the zoning amendment with the condition that the petitioner agree to landscape buffers.

The next Ellettsville Plan Commission meeting will be held on October 5th.

Monroe County Election Board

A banner reads, “Vote Here Today,” at 401 W 7th Street, Suite 100 (Young).

The Monroe County Election Board met on September 8th. First, County Clerk Nicole Browne gave an update on the budget, and Polling Sites.

Monroe County Election Supervisor Ryan Herndon gave updates from Election Central.

Herdon then asked the board whether or not they would provide extensions to the polling locations which have not responded in a timely manner. Board Member Nicole Browne suggested that the board should follow up with those potential polling locations in-person.

Next, Browne gave updates on the Fall 2023 General Election.

The next Election Board meeting will be held on October 5th.
