The Monroe County Commissioners met on January 10th, 2024.

Executive Director of the Waste Reduction District of Monroe County Tom McGlasson Jr. spoke during public comment. McGlasson discussed some changes coming to the recycling center, formerly known as the Monroe County Solid Waste Management District, including new signage, simpler paper recycling procedures and a new monthly schedule for bulky items.

Commissioner Penny Githens expressed appreciation for the center’s new bulky item schedule.

McGlasson explained that residents can expect to see new signage in their facilities, including one with the updated schedule.

The board also heard from County Attorney Molly Turner-King who asked the commissioners to approve an ordinance which would increase the compensation that Drainage Board members receive.

Turner-King explained that the board is often faced with tasks which require a certain level of expertise and technical
