Lake Lemon Conservancy District Board Meeting
During public comment at the Lake Lemon Conservancy District Board meeting, District Six Resident, Steve Langford said that he doesn’t think residents should have to pay the ten dollar entrance fee.
Chairman Mary Jane Brown said that they can discuss it, but it was the first time they have heard that comment.
District Seven Resident Rebecca Baw said she was frustrated with the board’s decisions.
Board members said that it would not be possible to withdraw unless she went to court.
The next public commenter Sarah Gale Talah, disagreed with Baw, and recommended that they add a parking lot after they finish the dredging project so that people would not have to park on the causeway anymore.
District Manager Adam Casey gave a report on how the firework show went. He said that the show was a success, and that it raised more money than the year.
Casey also gave an update on the dredging project.
The next meeting will be held on August 25th.
Medical Professionals Testify Against Near-Abortion Ban in Indiana
A near total ban on aboriton passed through an Indiana House committee on Tuesday. The bill now advances to the state’s House of Representatives where it awaits discussion and a final vote.
The Indiana House Committee on Courts and Criminal Code voted 8 to 5 on the measure after nine hours of public testimony.
Labor and delivery nurse Tanley Coreena Morris testified in opposition to the bill on Tuesday at the Statehouse. She said the decision to end a pregnancy is not one state legislators should make.
Dr. Caroline Rouse, an OB-GYN specializing in maternal fetal medicine, pleaded with state lawmakers to let her do her job.
Dr. Christina Francis, an OB-GYN in Fort Wayne, said she wants to see improvements made to this legislation.
Dr. Mary Ott, a pediatrician in adolescent medicine, said this bill takes away autonomy when it comes to reproductive health.
The Indiana House will vote on the bill as soon as Friday. Any changes made by the House will need approval from the state Senate.
