Play

A pool of mosquitoes has tested positive for the West Nile virus in Greene County. That’s according to the Greene County Daily World, which cited information from the Greene County Health Department. Greene is now one of three counties in the state of Indiana where the virus has been detected. So far, only one case of West Nile has been reported in a human in Indiana. 586 pools of mosquitoes have been tested across the state. Most people who get the virus show few symptoms, but severe cases can include swelling of the brain or the tissues that cover the brain and spinal cord. Signs that a person has the virus can include high fever, headache, neck stiffness, muscle weakness and being confused. There is no treatment available for West Nile virus but care can be given to those with severe illness.
