Governor Mitch Daniels has proclaimed February 11, 2011 as “Indiana 2-1-1 Day”. The United Way of Monroe County and Area 10 Agency on Aging held a press conference today in City Hall to raise awareness of the 2-1-1 Information and Referral service in Monroe and Owen counties. Newly-appointed 2-1-1 ambassadors spoke to community members about the value of 2-1-1. 2-1-1 is a three-digit phone number that connects people seeking services with the appropriate community organizations. Trained information and referral specialists answer each call and provide personalized and up-to-date information about local social service agencies. Free and confidential, 2-1-1 is
available 24/7 and is a nationwide initiative. United Way of Monroe County Community Investment Coordinator Jessica Mase kicks off the awareness campaign in this WFHB radio exclusive.
