Last week, the Monroe County Council voted to pass a nearly $30 million County budget for 2013. When the Council asked for public input, just four people spoke. Three of them were members of the organization Decarcerate Monroe County. Those members questioned why the County set aside more than half next year’s budget for the local justice system. Between the courts, the jail, the sheriff’s department, the prosecutor’s office and the public defender’s office, the County plans to spend more than 16 million dollars next year. Correspondent Joe Crawford spoke with Lindsay Badger, one of those who commented, for today’s WFHB Feature exclusive.
