Survey Research Affirms Bloomington’s High Quality of Life

A 2019 Community Survey reveals City of Bloomington residents see quality of life as one of the most valuable aspects of living in the city. Residents are particularly positive about their neighborhoods, education, and city parks. That’s according to a 2019 Community Survey conducted for the city by the National Research Center, a social science research firm in Boulder Colorado.

Damema Mann is a senior survey associate with the NRC. In a review of the survey’s key findings, Mann said residents highly value Bloomington’s quality of life. Mann said 80 percent of residents also gave high marks to the city’s natural environment and recreational opportunities.

Residents did not give the city such high marks on affordable housing, however. Mann also said one in ten respondents cited lack of job opportunity and difficulty getting around town as two things they liked least about living in Bloomington. Parking was also given low marks — only 30% of residents spoke positively about parking in the city.

The 2019 survey revealed the community’s priorities for the city. The city conducted a community survey in 2017. Mann said with subsequent surveys every to years, the city can continue to build data to see ongoing trends.
