An IU School of Medicine cancer research team is in process of refining a new drug that would target the protein SHP2, a protein that contributes to several types of leukemia. The team, including Dr. Reuben Kapur Director of the Hematology and Stem Cell Program at the Wells Center of Pediatric Research, Dr. Rebecca Chan Associate Professor of Pediatrics, and Dr. Xong Yen, Chair of the Biochemistry Department, have worked with the compound IIB-08 which inhibits or effectively shuts down this protein, slowing the disease process. WFHB correspondent Jennifer Whitaker spoke with Dr. Kapur for today’s WFHB feature exclusive.
