Renting in Bloomington

Play

With the first day of classes just a week away at Indiana University, the influx of tens of thousands of students to Bloomington has begun. And with that influx comes the traditional beginning of leases for houses and apartments across the city, as well as the ending of others. Tenants are moving out and moving in, and along the way many will run into conflicts with their landlords. On average more than a third of the work performed by IU’s Student Legal Services deals with tenant/landlord disputes. For today’s WFHB feature exclusive, correspondent Joe Crawford talks about the perils of renting with two local experts, including Lisa Abbott, director of Bloomington’s Housing and Neighborhood Development Department. But first, he speaks with the director of Student Legal Services, Randall Frykberg.
