They’re starting a new business in Bloomington but they’re not looking to become rich. Hannah Airiess and Micol Seigel are part of a collective opening a new book shop and gathering place in January 2024. They’ll open the doors of Redbud Books at 408 W. Kirkwood Ave. The nonprofit Redbud Books will be a community-curated book shop as well as a meeting place for people interested in reading groups, film screenings, art exhibitions, lectures, workshops, topical discussions, and more. Redbud is partnering with the Neighborhood Planting project to plant a tree for every book sold. Volunteers are filling its shelves with everything from poetry, science fiction, graphic novels, and children’s literature to Indigenous Worldview titles, Feminist and Black Thought, and Rustbelt Histories.
Host Michael Glab chats with Bloomington’s most fascinating people.
