Recycling at the Taste

Play

This weekend’s Taste of Bloomington event allowed visitors to taste small bites from over 40 area restaurants. And, for the first time this year, after diners had tried their samples, a team of volunteers was present to help sort the disposable plates, bowls, forks, cups and napkins into various recycle bins. The City of Bloomington’s Department of Economic & Sustainable Development, which started the recycling initiative last year with unmanned stations, will compare numbers with the amount of items recycled this year to see if the actively present volunteers helped increase the the event-goers awareness and improve accuracy of the recycled items.WFHB News Director Alycin Bektesh was on hand this weekend, and spoke with environmental defense fund interns Ian Champ and Kaity Goldsmith, who were overseeing the recycling collection. Ian Champ has been placed in the City of Bloomington Department of Economic & Sustainable Development for the summer, and starts out by explaining this year’s manned recycle station, for today’s WFHB feature exclusive.
