Writing the Diaspora Part 1

Play

Welcome to the 53rd episode of Hearabouts: Asian American Midwest Radio. Hearabouts is produced by Indiana University’s Asian Culture Center in collaboration with WFHB. We ask critical questions about identity, culture, community and shared assumptions. This episode is produced by Andrew Pace and Melanie Castillo-Cullather. Our sound engineer is Michael Sears.

Partnering with The Creative Writing MFA Program, the new series entitled Writing the Diaspora will feature two current MFA candidates, S.J. Ghaus, a Pakistani American poet and Alison Asagra Stoos, a mixed-race Filipina American writer, as they explore what it means to be Asian American artists in a diaspora that is often overlooked in the United States, finding community and connection across countries and oceans. This two-part series will highlight a discussion and interview of both artists as well as excerpts from their poetry, fiction, and non-fiction! Special thanks to the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs for their sponsorship of this event.
