Growing up in Small Towns in Indiana

Play

Welcome to the 48th episode of Hearabouts: Asian American Midwest Radio! Hearabouts is produced by WFHB and Indiana University’s Asian Culture Center. We ask critical questions about identity, culture, community and shared assumptions.

In this episode we have a conversation with Asian Hoosiers, Elaine Hilber, the first AAPI woman to win a seat on the City Council of Columbus, and Ming Wang, current Indiana University Bloomington student and native of Paoli, Indiana. Elaine and Ming share their experiences growing up in small towns in Indiana and the transition to Bloomington/Indiana University. We also discuss recent developments in these small towns as a result of changes in the national landscape and local demographics.
