Hosts Clarence Boone and Roberta Radovich pay homage to the legacy of Toni Morrison with guests Drs. John and Audrey McCluskey, who are respected academicians, writers, researchers and former acquaintances with Ms. Morrison.

Toni Morrison, was an American novelist, essayist, editor, teacher, and professor emeritus at Princeton University. She was noted for her examination of the black experience, especially from the perspective of black women. Some of her most notable honors were the Pulitzer Prize in 1988 for Beloved and the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993. She was also a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient in 2012.

Among her best-known novels are The Bluest Eye (1970), Song of Solomon (1977), Beloved (1987) and A Mercy (2008). She was one of the rare American authors whose books were both critical and commercial successes. Her novels appeared regularly on the New York Times best-seller list, were featured multiple times on Oprah Winfrey’s television book club, and were the subject of myriad critical studies. A longtime faculty member at Princeton, Ms. Morrison lectured widely and was seen often on television.

She died on August 5, 2019 at the age of 88 in New York City.

Shortly before her death was released  Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am, a film in which she leads an exploration of the human condition through the lens of race in the United States with many other leading voices on the topic.  Screenings of The Pieces I  Am will be held at The IU Fine Arts Theaters are at 1201 East 7th Street as part of the Ryder Film Series from September 13-29.
