Bring It On! – November 22, 2021: Local Black Notables

Part One:
Hosts Clarence Boone and William Hosea spend the first half of the program with Attorney Alphonso Manns, one of Bloomington’s long-time African American practicing attorneys. He is a 1964 graduate of Fisk University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He also graduated from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, in 1972, with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence. During his studies, he was declared a Martin Luther King, Jr. Fellow of the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship Foundation. He also founded the I.U. Chapter of Black American Law Student Association, and later graduated from the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs with a Master of Public Affairs (1975).

Part Two:
Hosts Clarence Boone and William Hosea spend the second half of the hour with Bring It On segment producer of Dark Past, Bright Future, Liz Mitchel, and the emeritus professor of the IU Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies, Gladys DeVane, who is a storyteller, scriptwriter, and actor. They are here to discuss the upcoming “Black Authors Speak” a public celebration of our Black local literary community set to take place on July 17th from 5-7 p.m. at the Monroe County History Center.
