On today’s edition of Bring It On!, hosts William Hosea and Natalia Galvan speak with two women of color who are vying for local and national political offices:

Dr. Valerie McCray

As a healthcare professional, Dr. Valerie McCray has evaluated thousands of men and women of our military suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain injuries from the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Gulf War, and Vietnam.  Dr. McCray has worked in over a dozen high-security prisons and jails in Indiana and Georgia. She has often said, “Prisons are the mental health hospitals for the poor”. She works with victims of violence and families that have lost loved ones to violence. She treats children that have been displaced due to abuse and neglect, girls that have been sex trafficked. Despite being surrounded by tragedy, Dr. McCray embodies optimism and exudes a contagious excitement about the future of Indiana. She respects science and research and looks forward to embracing technology that brings clean manufacturing back to the United States, we will not only improve the health of the planet but will improve our quality of life beyond our wildest dreams. “Our mental health is our mental wealth.”

Jennifer Crossley

Jennifer Crossley serves as the first Black chairwoman of the Monroe County Democratic Party. Prior to this, she was on the steering committee on the Democratic Women’s Caucus in 2018. She also served as the Membership Chair and Vice President of the Monroe County NOW (National Organization for Women) chapter in 2017. Jennifer is active and engaged through extensive volunteerism, with Shalom Center (now Beacon), the Bloomington chapter of Moms Demand Action against Gun Violence, Monroe County Black Democratic Caucus, the chapter of the NAACP, and the Democratic Women’s Caucus. She resides in Bloomington with her three children and Emmy-Award-winning husband, Justin.  Jennifer continues to use her voice and platform to push for more women of color to be involved in the political process; to not only have a seat at the table but to ensure that their voices are heard.
