Chef Lee Rosser

On today’s edition of Bring It On!, hosts, Clarence Boone and Liz Mitchell welcome Chef Lee Rosser.

In a recent Bloom Magazine article, Carmen Siering wrote that for more than 25 years, Lee Rosser was a professional wrestler—a showman with a flair for pageantry, storytelling, and bringing people together. Now, as Chef Lee, he does the same thing using culinary skills gained after stepping out of the ring. He has also been featured in the Times Herald.

Lee Rosser, who is 51, is from Gary, Indiana, and is the eldest of seven children raised by a single mother. “I grew up in the ’hood, and I wanted a way out,” he says. “Wrestling offered me that.” He started wrestling in the mid-90s, traveling a circuit and making a name for himself as “PT Hustla”. His break came when he met Chef JJ Boston at an autograph-signing event at Victory Field in Indy. Soon, he was promoting himself as “Caterer Lee Rosser Punching You with Flavor” as he took his flair for showmanship from the ring to the kitchen. He joins us to share his story of transformation.

Dark Past-Bright Future: Garrett Morgan and Fred Patterson

Garrett Morgan

Today, we also have a special Dark Past-Bright Future segment ideally suited for the month of May featuring Garrett Morgan, the black inventor of the automotive traffic control light, and the story of an unsung black race car driver, Fred Patterson. Garrett Morgan was an African-American inventor who invented two very different and important things: the gas mask and the traffic signal. During his long life, he also became one of the most recognized and respected African-Americans in the country. Frederick Douglas Patterson was the first African American to build motorized cars. The first Patterson automobile, the Patterson-Greenfield, rolled off the line on September 23, 1915.
