PART ONE: Host Clarence Boone speaks with eminent bachata artist Martires De Leon, the leader of the DREAM Bachata Academy, and Ben de Menil, its musical director, who also acts as De Leon’s translator. DREAM stands for Dominican Republic Education and Mentoring, a music academy that teaches its young musicians bachata, a genre of Latin American music originating from the Dominican Republic in the mid-20th Century. Bachata incorporates Indigenous, African and European musical elements. De Leon and his fellow artists will be performing Tuesday, March 5, and Wednesday, March 6, at the Lotus Firebay venue, located at 105 S. Rogers Street.
PART TWO: Host Clarence Boone then interviews David Hummons, the 2019 City of Bloomington Black History Month’s Living Legend Award Winner.
