Bring It On! – January 4, 2020: Biden’s Choice for Secretary of Defense and Trump’s Denial of Re-Election Defeat

Today’s hosts of Bring It On! are Clarence Boone and William Hosea. Their guests are Dr. Joseph Hoffman and retired Major General Craig Q. Timberlake.

Together they examine some of the challenges facing President-elect Joseph Biden’s selection of retired Army Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III as his Secretary of Defense and the most recent apparent ethical and legal lapses surrounding Donald J. Trump’s continuing refusal to accept that he has lost re-election.

General Austin is the former Commander of U.S. Central Command and a Silver Star recipient from the Iraq war. If his nomination is successful, he would become the first Black Secretary of Defense. However, some criticized the choice since it does not conform with the tradition of civilian control of the military. Further, General Austin would need a congressional waiver to take the job because he has not been out of uniform for the required seven years.

Also, in a seemingly endless parade of unprecedented ethical and legal lapses, Trump continues to shock the nation and the world. In the latest news, it has been reported that 11 Republican Senators and roughly 140 Republican Congressional representatives plan to challenge the Electoral Colleges declaration of Joe Biden as President-Elect. And now, Trump faces calls for his impeachment over an hour-long call on Saturday, January 2, 2021, in which he seems to threaten Brad Raffensperger, Georgia’s Secretary of State, if he does not overturn the presidential vote in his state by finding 11,780 votes.
