Bring It On! – February 15, 2021 – Bloomington’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO)

Play

On today’s edition of Bring It On!, hosts Clarence Boone and William Hosea welcome Monroe County Human Rights Commissioner, Vauhxx Booker, and Dave Warren, Founding Partner at Cardinal Analytics and Planning Associates, to examine the City of Bloomington’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The UDO governs land use and development throughout the City of Bloomington and became effective on April 18, 2020. It is the primary source of land use regulations for the City, including both zoning and subdivision control ordinances. The UDO is drafted based on guidance from the adopted Comprehensive Plan.

From its inception, some city residents have viewed the UDO as a threat to traditional single-family homes. City officials disagree and contend that the UDO’s purpose is to create a diverse mix of single and multi-family housing units. Residents have, nonetheless, sought to make their voices heard. Tonight’s panel assesses the current state of the UDO and the issues that it raises within the Bloomington community.
