Bring It On! – February 03, 2020

Play

Today’s program focuses on the different events celebrating Black History Month happening in Bloomington, Indiana throughout February. Black History Month is an annual observance originating in the US, where it is also known as African-American History Month. It has received official recognition from governments in the United States, Canada, and, more recently, has been observed unofficially in Ireland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. It began as a way of remembering important people and events in the history of the African diaspora.

Host Clarence Boone welcomes James Sanders, who is a member of the City of Bloomington’s Black History Month Planning Committee and chair of the City’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission, to discuss what is happening in town in honor of Black History Month. Dr. Gloria L. Howell, Associate Director of Indiana University’s Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center (NMBCC),  also joins the program to give an overview of the events happening at the NMBCC.
