Bring It On! – December 28, 2020: IUPUI’s Center for Africana Studies and Culture, the Africana Repertory Theatre, and The ‘Black Experience’

On today’s edition of Bring It On!, hosts Roberta Radovich and Gloria Howell welcome three outstanding and visionary faculty and administrator members from the Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) to discuss IUPUI’s newly established Center for Africana Studies and Culture and the other wide-array of exceptional programs to showcase the “Black Experience” at IUPUI. In particular, today’s guests also showcase IUPUI’s Africana Repertory Theatre (ARTI), a campus-to-community initiative, focused on Black lives and stories via theater. The ARTI produces the work of Black playwrights and commits to presenting authentic voices to tell truths about the many-layered experiences of Black Americans.

Today’s guests are:
Dr. Leslie K. Etienne is a visiting professor in the School of Education’s Teacher Education Department and in the School of Liberal Arts, Africana Studies Program. Dr. Etienne also serves as the Project Director for the School of Education’s Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School site.

falseDr. Khaula Murtadha is the former Executive Associate Dean of the IU School of Education and now serves as Associate Vice Chancellor for the Office of Community Engagement at IUPUI. She is a faculty member of the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies program in the School of Education. She also serves on the Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees, as well as that of the Christamore House and the Indiana Council for Continuing Education.

Dr. Regina Turner is an associate professor of Communications at IUPUI’s School of Liberal Arts. She joined the faculty in 1998 and has served as a campus/community liaison, working with churches, high schools, and families to raise awareness and interest in higher education.
