On tonight’s edition of Bring It On!, hosts, Clarence Boone and Liz Mitchell, speak with Marvin Dunn, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Psychology at Florida International University, retiring as the department chairman in 2006.
He has published numerous articles in leading newspapers on race and ethnic relations including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Orlando Sentinel and the Miami Herald. He is the author of the following books: The History of Florida: Through Black Eyes (Create Space Independent Publishing Platform, 2016), and Black Miami in the Twentieth Century (University Press of Florida, 1997). He is one of the coauthors of This Land is Our Land, California (University of California Press, 2003) and The Miami Riot of 1980: Crossing the Bounds (Lexington, Massachusetts: D.C. Heath, 1984). However, these days, Dr. Dunn has turned his passion for history into a historical immersion experience called “Teach the Truth Tours”.
Several weeks ago, while guiding a group of tourists into Florida’s seamy past, Dr. Dunn was interviewed on MSNBC, by Podcast Producer Trymaine Lee. The Teach the Truth Tour, examines how Black people in Florida lived and died in the face of white supremacist violence. Here to tell us more about his research and these impactful and transformative truth tours is Dr. Marvin Dunn.
