Protest Continues on Armored Truck Purchase

Play

During the Bloomington City Council’s special session’s public comment period, Black Lives Matter advocate Vauhxx Booker announced his group will continue to protest the Mayor’s decision to approve purchasing an armored truck for the police department.

He said the group and its allies would continue protesting until they feel they’ve been heard. True to his word, Booker began to protest a short time later, and the special session was promptly adjourned. The council later reconvened its regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole meeting.

Booker again attempted to disrupt the council. Acting council chair Dave Rollo asked Booker to wait until public comment so council member could discuss their sole agenda item. Council members were unable to continue conducting business, and Rollo recessed the meeting, asking the Sergeant at Arms to escort Booker out. Members of the audience chanted “let him speak.” Booker was escorted out of the city council chambers by a police officer.
