Pressure on Indiana Governor’s Office to Turn Over Carrier Deal Emails

Play

An Indianapolis judge is ordering the governor’s office to turn over details about the 2016 Carrier jobs deal made by then President-elect Donald Trump.

Marion County Judge Heather Welch ruled on Monday that the Indiana Governor’s office has 30 days to turn over emails concerning the Carrier deal. The documents contain correspondence between Trump and then-Indiana Governor Mike Pence.

Judge Welch’s decision would require documents to be turned over to the Citizens Action Coalition of Indiana, a left-leaning nonprofit organization. The CAC is pushing for the details behind the deal to be made public. The Citizen Action Coalition first requested the documents in December, 2016.

Trump made the deal with Carrier Corporation, after winning the 2016 Presidential election. Trump said the deal arranged for the refrigeration and air conditioning manufacturer to keep several hundred manufacturing jobs in Indianapolis that they had been planning to move to Mexico.
