Indiana Newspapers Defy ‘Enemy’ Accusations

Play

President Donald Trump has called members of the news media “Enemies of the American People” seven times since June, over Twitter alone.

In response, over 350 newspapers across the country published Opinion-Editorial pieces today, voicing their support for a free press. The nation-wide endeavor comes after The Boston Globe called for editorial boards to publish pieces defending the role of journalists.

In Indiana, at least twelve papers published articles rebuking President Donald Trump for attacking the press as “The Enemy of the American People.” Those include: The Herald-Times (Bloomington), The Indianapolis StarKokomo TribuneThe Journal Gazette (Fort Wayne), News-Sentinel (Fort Wayne), Journal & Courier (Lafayette), Tribune Star (Lafayette), The South Bend Tribune, The Herald-Bulletin (Anderson), The Courier-Times (New Castle), News Examiner (Connersville), and The Lebanon Reporter.

Herald-Times Editor-in-Chief Bob Zaltsberg, said he published an Op-Ed in today’s paper because he believes newspapers, in particular, work to tell truth to power.
