Bloomington and I.U. Unveil New Bikeshare Program

Play

A new bike sharing program is being launched next Wednesday, by the City of Bloomington and Indiana University.

The new bike share program is dockless. This means that there is no new infrastructure associated with the program. The city is already equipped with the resources to support this kind of bike share.

The program will be overseen by Pace. The Pace bike share system is operated by the larger Boston-based bike share company Zagster, which runs more than 200 bike shares across the United States. The Pace system is a bike sharing service for “smart cities and colleges,” and is being implemented in 12 other cities, including West Lafayette and Chicago. It operates through a smartphone app, which according to city officials, will collect data on the usage of the service and decide when and if it should expand.

A preview and demo of the new system will be held during next week’s launch.
