ObamaCare in Indiana

Play

Following the re-election of President Obama, Republicans’ talk of repealing the Affordable Care Act – or ObamaCare – has mostly faded away. Now, attention has turned to how federal and state governments will implement the provisions within the Act, which kicks into full gear in 2014. In Indiana, Governor-elect Mike Pence has said he won’t set up a health insurance exchange, where lower income people would shop for subsidized health coverage. Instead, Pence said he’ll let the federal government set up the exchange for Indiana. And so far it’s not clear whether Indiana will go along with another part of the health law’s foundation, expanding the Medicaid program. That expansion is intended to cover many of the working poor, and without it, experts say more than 300,000 Hoosiers could be left without health insurance. Correspondent Joe Crawford speaks with Eric Wright, director of the center for Health Policy at Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis, about the future of health coverage for low-income people in the state, for today’s WFHB feature exclusive.
