First, Bloomington’s near Westside district was granted historic conservation. Historic Preservation Program Manager Connor Herterich spoke at the December fourth city council meeting. He said conservation places three restrictions on homeowners.

Monroe County Food and Beverage Tax Advisory Board postponed additional funding approval on December Third for a convention center parking garage. Controller Jeff Underwood requested using approximately 2 million more tax payer dollars than the previously approved 4 million dollars. Monroe County Auditor Cathy Smith said extra funding is not appropriate.

The City of Bloomington will be holding a panel discussion concerning the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market this Saturday, December 7th.

According to a press release from the City, the panel will discuss issues related to free speech, inclusion, and safety from this year’s market season. They will also discuss options for the 2020 season.

The Farmers’ Market has attracted controversy this past year for allowing Schooner Creek Farm to run a produce booth. The farm’s owners have connections to the American Idenity Movement, a white supremacist group formerly known as Identity Europa. The group took part in the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Lastly, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb said on Wednesday that he supports teacher pay raises.

According to an article from The Journal Gazette, Governor Holcomb said that he wants Indiana teachers’ salaries to be in the top three in the Midwest. Indiana is currently behind all of its neighbors in teacher pay.
