News Brief – September 8, 2020

394 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Indiana on Monday, according to the Indiana State Department of Health. There were 4 reported deaths. Locally, Monroe County saw 32 new confirmed cases yesterday, while Lawrence County saw 1. Brown County reported no new cases.

The Monroe County Community School Corporation announced yesterday that it would be moving into “code yellow” instruction today. Monroe County has established a green-yellow-red color scheme for their school re-opening plan. A code red means all grade levels will be online-only; a code green means all grades are open to in-person instruction with an online option.

Today’s Code Yellow means different things for different grades. All elementary schools will be offering in-person instruction, Monday through Friday. Secondary schools will move into a hybrid schedule, with students alternating in-person and digital days based on their last name. For example, today students with last names beginning with L through Z will meet in-person, while students with last names beginning with A through K will meet online. Students who choose to meet online-only can continue to meet online.

This morning, the Monroe County Coroner’s office released the identities of the family members involved in Sunday Morning’s apparent murder suicide. Annamarie Greta Mumper, her husband Jeffrey, and their children Emma, and Jakob. All four individuals will have autopsies performed later this week in Terre Haute.
