News Brief – November 17, 2020

5,451 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Indiana on Monday, according to the Indiana State Department of Health. There were 84 newly reported deaths. Locally, Monroe County saw 98 new confirmed cases yesterday while Lawrence County reported 30. Brown County reported 10 new cases.

The City of Bloomington revealed in a press release yesterday that three city employees have tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend. One employee works in the sanitation division of the Public Works department; The other two work in central dispatch for the Bloomington Police Department. There have been 20 positive cases among city workers since the pandemic started.

The Monroe County Community Kitchen has recently opened a location in Ellettsville. The community kitchen works alone and in collaboration with others, to eliminate hunger in Monroe County and surrounding areas through direct service, education and advocacy. The new Ellettsville location can be found at 102 South Park Street. They serve meals Monday through Saturday, from 4 P-M to 6:30 P-M no questions asked.

The Ellettsville location is not currently using volunteer staff. However, if you are interested in volunteering at either of the Bloomington locations, call 812-322-0999.
