News Brief – December 1, 2020

5,518 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Indiana on Monday, according to the Indiana State Department of Health. Daily positive cases dipped under five thousand briefly during the Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving before jumping back over Five Thousand starting Sunday. There were 142 newly reported deaths. Locally, Monroe County saw 101 new confirmed cases yesterday while Lawrence County reported 62. Brown County reported 8 new cases.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb extended Indiana’s COVID-19 public health emergency for an additional 30 days. This is the ninth renewal of the emergency declaration, which Holcomb first issued via Executive Order in early March. Today’s Executive Order does not add any new Coronavirus measures. The Health Emergency expires December 31st, unless it is extended again, which is highly likely.

Bloomington City Council Member Sue Sgambelluri will be hosting a constituent meeting this Saturday, December 5th. The Zoom meeting will focus on two topics: unified development ordinance and the new zoning map, and will feature City Development Services manager Jackie Scanlan. Constituent meetings are opportunities for folks living in Bloomington to communicate directly with members of the city council. Sgambelluri represents Bloomington district 2, but any Bloomington resident is welcome to attend. The meeting will be from 1:30 to 2:30 on Sueforcitycouncil.com.
