Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb signed into law a bill providing legal recourse for the victims of ‘revenge pornography.’
Senate Bill 192, authored by Sen. (R-LaPorte) Mike Bohacek, establishes the legal framework for a victim of revenge pornography to sue both the person who captured their image, and individual distributors.
SB 192 passed in the Indiana House of Representatives unanimously, earlier this month. It allows victims to sue for punitive damages, emotional distress, and monetary gain from the distribution of their “intimate image.” The bill also allows for victims to sue each defendant found to have knowingly distributed images without consent. Each defendant found guilty would be held liable for up to $10,000.
