Moving Local Postal Operations to Indianapolis

Play

Exclusive audio from the U.S. Postal Service public meeting on a proposal to consolidate some local postal operations by closing a local facility and shifting its workload to Indianapolis. Bloomington postal workers say customer service would suffer, but postal official Lynn Smith, district manager of the greater Indiana area, promises that delivery times of local mail would NOT change. He also promised that collection box pickup times will not change, and that the fifteen local people who would lose their jobs would be offered positions elsewhere in the postal system. Smith says USPS would save $1.1 million per year with the move, but members of the public tell him it’s not worth it, like Paul Mayer, one of the employees at the targeted Bloomington mail processing plant.
