Lilian Lau, a student at Indiana University, discusses a film that will screen at the IU Radio and Television Theater titled “Eternal Spring” from December 2-4.

The film is about a state TV channel in China that gets hacked by members of the spiritual group, Falun Gong. The group attempts to counter the government narrative about their practice.

Lau analyzes how the incident in 2002 is relevant to today – twenty years later – where we see protests in China over the zero-COVID policy and human rights abuses against Uyghur Muslims in Northwest China.

She also mentioned what she had to go through in order to screen this film at IU and how she was able to organize the screening. She explained why she believes this film is important to show here in Bloomington.

All in all, this film is about the determination to speak up for political and religious freedoms no matter the cost. Lau outlined how this message resonated with her.
