Play

Dr. Shaul Magid of the I.U. Department of Religion joins host William Morris for a discussion of both the historic and present states of the Palestine-Israel situation.  Dr. Magid first gives a historic overview of the situation, going back to occupation under the Ottoman Empire, the 1917 Balfour Declaration, and the Peale Commission of 1937.  The discussion also covers Dr. Magid’s view of the Palestinian and Israeli positions, respectively, as well as the present positions of two major stakeholders in the conflict: the United States and the Arab League.  Dr. Magid offers an analysis of U.N. Resolution 242, various peace plans, and their likelihood of success.
