Interchange – Sam Avery: The Pipeline and the Paradigm

Play

While the corridor of North America slated to link the Keystone Pipeline from Alberta to Texas may seem massive in size, the impact of linking the average oil-dependent consumer to the trillions of gallons of tarsands petroleum tapped by Keystone will no doubt be much greater. Activist, author, and Louisville resident Sam Avery traveled the length of the proposed pipeline, engaging with the blossoming culture of activism against Keystone and even facing arrest himself in Texas as a result of his public opposition. His research and activism are chronicled in his new book, The Pipeline and the Paradigm, where he also documents testimony by those fearing local impact by the Keystone Pipeline. Interchange host Ryan Dawes discusses Avery’s new book, the pros and cons of the pipeline, and the basic human aspirations that impact our environment.
