An Indianapolis man was arrested this morning, after allegedly breaking into local musician John Mellencamp’s home.
The 48-year old Robert Carter allegedly rammed his SUV through a security gate at Mellencamp’s Lake Monroe residence. He then kicked down the front door, investigators say, at around 6 a.m.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department said that no one was home at the time of the incident. Carter was charged with burglary, residential entry and criminal trespass.
Carter had been released from the Monroe County Jail after a court appearance yesterday for possession of a handgun without a license. Investigators reportedly conducted a mental health evaluation on Carter. A press release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s office stated Bloomington Police were tipped off by Carter’s recent social media activity.
