The teachers strike in Chicago entered its second week today, with union leaders saying they need more time to review a potential agreement with Mayor Rahm Emmanuel’s administration. Among the issues at the heart of the conflict is that of teacher evaluations. Specifically, evaluations that are linked to standardized test scores. The entire state of Indiana recently implemented its own requirements for teacher evaluations, which look a lot like those opposed by Chicago teachers. Today we hear from local public education advocate Philip Harris, who co-wrote a book last year called The Myths of Standardized Tests: Why They Don’t Tell You What You Think They Do. Harris spoke with correspondent Joe Crawford for this WFHB feature exclusive.
