The Indiana Department of Education released last year’s ISTEP+ results, this afternoon.

The Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress tests evaluate school districts based on Indiana student scores. ISTEP tests students in grades 3 through 8 and high school sophomores on their mathematics and language arts skills.

Results from last year’s tests, which were released this afternoon, show improvement in the Monroe County Community School Corporation. MCCSC improved from a ‘B’ letter grade in 2016, to an ‘A’ in 2017.

North Lawrence Community School District also improved, moving from a ‘C’ to a ‘B,’ between 2016 and 2017.
The Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporation maintained an A letter grade; and Brown County Community School Corporation stayed the same, with a ‘B.’

Gary Community School Corporation appealed to the Indiana Department of Education to opt out of the test last year. That appeal is still pending, according to today’s reports. In 2016, the school corporation received an ‘F’ letter grade from the Department of Education. Gary Community Schools have been running on a budget deficit, prompting a state takeover earlier this year.
