This May was the hottest on record for Indiana. Globally, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association found last month to be the fourth hottest on record.
This month appears to be on-track for another record-breaking heat wave. Temperatures regularly in the mid-90’s, along with high humidity is leading the Shalom Community Center in Bloomington to issue a call for donations of bath towels, socks, bottled water, and cold-snapping cooling towels.
In addition to those items, Shalom is particularly in need of volunteers.
Thompson says although the number of volunteers drops throughout the summer, the number of homeless individuals requiring services stays about the same.
NOAA issued a heat advisory in our listening area, today. Summer storms are expected to provide some relief from the heat throughout the week. For a full list of items Shalom is asking for, visit the Shalom Community Website.
