Gaal, Prosecutors Refuse to Implement Abortion Legislation

Senate Enrolled Act 340, which passed in this year’s short session of the Indiana Legislature, would increase the reporting requirements for women seeking an abortion, increase the inspections and standards of health clinics which perform abortions, and level criminal charges against physicians who fail to fully disclose patient complications resulting from an abortion.

Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, along with the Indiana chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, have filed a lawsuit against Indiana over the legislation. Today, Monroe County Prosecutor Chris Gall issued a joint statement with prosecutors in Marion and Lake counties, saying they will not carry out Senate Bill 340. Here, WFHB News Director Wes Martin speaks with Monroe County Prosecutor Chris Gaal about the announcement, in today’s feature report.
