Funny Times: Gabriel Piser and Mia Beach

Play

Co-publisher Piser and editor Beach crew the Bloomington editorial office of the humor magazine, Funny Times, along with co-publisher (and heiress to the empire), Renae Lesser. Founded by Renae’s parents Sue Wolpert and Ray Lesser in the Cleveland area in 1985, Funny Times continues to print a monthly magazine chock full of cartoons — many of them political — as well as essays and prose narratives. Featuring well-known contributors like Matt Groening, Lynda Barry, Dave Barry, Michael Moore, Andy Borowitz, Garrison Keillor, and Alison Bechdel, Funny Times has developed a loyal reader following around the world. Lesser, Piser, and Beach are leading the magazine into the digital age while keeping its old school newspaper comics section feel.

Host Michael Glab chats with Bloomington’s most fascinating people.
