Dan Choi: Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

Play

U.S. Army First Lieutenant Dan Choi was in Bloomington Monday to talk about his personal battle with the Army’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. Choi is an Iraq War veteran who graduated from West Point Military Academy in 2003 and was one of the few linguists serving the U.S. Army fluent in Arabic. He served his country for nearly 10 years but received a letter earlier this year alerting him that the army had begun his discharge proceedings after he announced he was gay on “The Rachel Maddow Show” in March. Choi is a member of “Knights Out,” a group of 38 West Point graduates who all declared their homosexual orientation in March as a show of protest against Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Choi shares his stories of struggle both on and off the battlefield with a Bloomington audience in this WFHB radio exclusive.
